Jefferson Hills is a member owned course that is open for public play. Nice layout. Flat and can be easily walked, it's a tree lined, parkland/links style course that is beautifully maintained. The fairways are smooth, and the greens are large and accepting. On the day that I played, it rained the night before. The course was wet, but it obviously has a good drainage system as it played just fine. The greens were punched less than one week before and were already healing. No problem putting. Randy Luke, the head pro/course supt., has been there for 15 years and is a master at his craft. The course plays at a comfortable 5,800-6,100 yards. Great for families with enough challenge for the discerning golfer. An irrigation canal runs across several holes and a creek runs throughout the property providing ample opportunity for trouble along the way. Birdies can be had, but one can easily rack up a 8 or even a 10 on some of the holes if you are not careful. Memorable holes are #6, a par 5 dogleg with creek on the left and a clump of trees on the right that can affect your second and approach shots, and #8 a par 4 that has the creek running across the fairway near the green and more water hazard on the right. The only thing I'd suggest is if you play it the first time, see if you can play with a local. The confluence of the holes can be a little confusing, which is not a negative, just an observation. This course would be a great home-course for anyone.

Actually, this WAS an 18 hole course and resort with cabins, a tennis court, pool and lodge. It has been closed for quite a while. When I went there it was quiet, somewhat surreal. The buildings are still there, and the lodge is still occupied. I ran into Melanie, the former manager. She was very accommodating and friendly. She showed me around and even dug out an old score card.
LocalGolfer's motto is "don't play in the dirt," which was the motivating factor in creating the LG website, so golfers could look up a course and get current info about the course and avoid traveling to a course that is inferior or closed, but I couldn't help myself. I played one of the par 3's on my way out. I almost made it to the green, and came away with a bogey. The cows in the field next to me must have thought I was crazy...but aren't most golfers? In its prime, I'm sure the course as a great destination. It was fun to play in the dirt, just this once.

This course is a WOW! Every hole is a picture. The fairways are smooth, wide and generous...no bumpy ride in a cart. The greens are fast and true. The contrast of the farmers' fields, the brown grasses lining the perimeter of the tracks, and the beautiful white sand is pleasing to the eye and inviting. With 5 tee boxes, you can choose to play the forward tees at 4,708 or stretch your skill level by playing the tips at 7,189. I suggest the length you are comfortable with or you could easily kill your mood on the must carry holes. The staff was very accommodating and super friendly. The head pro, Tony Cuchessi, visited with me and made me feel like I was the only one in the room. The grill serves wonderful food and drinks for before or after your round and the staff is friendly. This is a must play Northwest course. I also stayed at the Casino Resort Hotel. The Stay and Play packages are reasonable. The accommodations are superb. I liked best that the shower has good pressure.
I know this almost sounds like a commercial, but I wouldn't say all I said if it wasn't true.

This has to be the most beautiful golf course in Northern Idaho. I must have said "WOW" at least 12 times as we turned a corner to a new hole. A little challenging but very fun.
Staff was very nice. I highly recommend this treasure of a golf course in Northwest Idaho.
Only 1.5 hours from Spokane and it was worth the drive.

As a very much beginning golfer, I don't have too much to compare the experience with. However, the staff was incredibly friendly and we didn't have any wait time, which was nice. We played on the Robin Hood course, and I thought it was fairly well maintained for the cost of playing there. Definitely a good place for bargain golfers like myself!
