Well, it seems that Bittersweet has finally given up the ghost. Sunday, May 26, 10:30am--absolutely gorgeous weather in the middle of a holiday weekend--and they're closed. Does not appear to have been mowed in a while. A handwritten note taped to the door with no information other than "closed". If anyone has any details, please share them... specifically if there is any hope of this course being re-opened, whether under current management or someone new. The next nearest course to my home in Chestertown runs at least 3 times the cost per round, and that's if I go at off-hours during the week.

I have played and enjoyed this course for a number of years (since it was called Brantwood) and I've seen it go through several ups and downs, but nothing like last year. By the end of last summer, the greens were simply unplayable. The good news is they have made a significant comeback. I played on Sunday, March 10, and the greens were slow, bumpy, and inconsistent... but compared to last August they were like Augusta National. The sand traps are still a mess, the fairways are thin in places, the rough is a bit shaggy, the tee boxes are "meh". But the course is playable. This course was always a solid, low-cost track, nothing more, nothing less. Long hitters will always kill it, but for hackers like me it's plenty of challenge when it's in shape. I know the staff is putting in the effort with a tight budget, and I am really rooting that they continue to make the kind of improvement I saw this weekend. I'll be back to find out.

Went to play this course on Sunday, September 9, 2012 and didn't even get out of the car. You can see several holes as you are driving to the course entrance and the place is in terrible condition. It was 3:00 in the afternoon and there were 3 cars in the parking lot and it was a beautiful day. The place should have been packed. The entire course looked like it had been totally neglected. It looked like the greens were being cut with the same mowers as the fairways as there wasn't much difference in height. This course should be closed. I hope it is purchased by someone who can turn it around. I have played it several times in the past and it was always enjoyable. What a joke!!!!

For $15 you get what you pay for. fairways are basically just weeds, hard to tell where the fairways end and the rough starts. Greens are just worn out. Sand traps range from harden dirt to weeds, to piles of wet sand. Looks like they had some grounds keeper working on the course but i think it might be too far gone to save without a major overhaul

Course is overall OK with a friendly staff and a good snack bar. Greens are in good shape but traps are all compacted. Fairways and rough are spotty at best with bare spots mixed with spots of deep grass. Unable to tell where the fairway ends and the rough begins in many cases. Price was excellent at $20. I'll probably go back in the spring to see if they get the fairways under control.

Great walking course. But, sadly, it looks like it may be closed forever. I played almost every day with a bunch of old farts in the early AM. We will miss this course a lot.

Editor Note: The course closure has NOT been confirmed

Course has changed names and is now Bittersweet Golf Course (formerly Brantwood Golf Course). Played here on the way to a boat trip. Had a great deal of $30 for 18 and cart (plus you get a hot-dog). Played on a Thursday afternoon and nobody was on the course. Course was in good shape, tee boxes, fairways were all in great shape, bunkers were kinda rocky but overall very playable with plenty of sand. Greens were VERY Slow (starter told us upfront that they were slow), but very true. Not a terribly hard course but water in places makes for some tricky shots.

The course was in better shape than most summers. Tee boxes were in marignal shape, but the fairways and green were better than normal, I imagine the ton of rain this spring helped. beverage cart was available across the road (holes 6-11) but was only parked and did not drive around. Played it out of a discount book ($25) and if you gave them your e-mail address you got a free drink. Pace of play was good for a sunday afternoon

Course is in better shape than it was last fall but fairwars are all hardpan with numerous bare spots. Tees are very hard (you will probably need 18 tees). Traps are above average and most of the greens are in good shape but inconsistent as to putting speed. Rate is excellent ($30 for golf, cart, and lunch), or onetime $15 with Teetime book.

This course is in really bad shape. The fairways have numerous bare dirt spots with crabgrass growing rampant. The greens had bare spots on them and ran very slow. The bare greens cost a good eagle opportunity on #17. Avoid this place. Spend a little more money and play Patriots Glen Or Chesapeake Bay Club.
