I played the Chesapeake Hills Golf Course last week and loved it. The course had rolling fairways and elevation changes that were spectacular, by far the best design in the area. The course was also in great shape, especially the greens! The back nine is the better of the two nines as it has few houses on it and is more scenic. The pro shop was fully stocked, the grill room had just been remodeled, and the staff were great. I will definitely play it again; it is a great value for the money!

Fairways and greens have a lot of bare spots, but they don't seem to affect the roll of the ball. Course is in worse shape than last year (as pointed out by the previous reviewer. Traps are OK but sand is a little heavy. They do seem to be tended to daily, however. Snack bar is minimal and this morning only one individual was tending both the pro shop and the snack bar. I'm looking forward to this course getting back in shape as I love the layout with plenty of risk/reward situations available.

All 18 greens dead due to lack of watering by new superintendent. evidently new guy from Pa.He did not understand how to grow poa annua on sandy soil in mid atlantic. Syringing daily during heat of day was not done despite crew leaders begging hin to do so. Crew leader was fired for complaining to bosses above him. All the regular players like myself are pissed to say the least. The GM and Parks Manager above him have no clue and have run this place into the ground now killing the greens that were in good shape up to the point they hired this guy 4 weeks ago! The former super worked his ass off to bring this place back and was forced to resign due to personal reasons, we wish he had stayed we would have a great golf course, now we have dirt! Stay away and save your money for some other golf experience!

Now here is a diamond in the rough. Except when your ball lands there (as I am still new at this!) Mowing these down may improve the speed of the play. What a deal the twilight after 3PM brings---even on weekends, two can play for less than $50!

This is an interesting and challenging track. Unfortunately two of the greens have been marred by tire tracks which the grounds crew are no trying to repair. Fairways were OK with some bare spots on some holes. Sand traps were excellent with sugar sand. Although we had a tee time when we got to the fifth hole we were asked to move to the back nine so a shotgun start tournament could begin. After we completed the back nine we had to fit ourselves in to the flow at the sixth hole. This was not easy as there was a steady flow of foursomes trailing behind the last group of the tournament. There was no assistance from any of the staff in getting us back into the flow. Snack bar was very reasonably prices with a large selection on lunch items.

Not a bad course for the price. Fairways have grown in nicely from earlier in the season. Greens are the best part of the course.

Back nine has a very interesting layout. Pro shop was closed (Monday) but snack shop personnel took greens and cart fees and were friendly and professional. Course could have been in better shape. Greens were very good but fairways were hard packed and bald in some places. Had to play from 7 temporary tees. Rough was cut to a reasonable length but had some bare spots.

Living in this area all my life I've had the opportunity to play many of the public courses in Maryland. Most of my rounds have been in Montgomery, PG, and Southern MD counties. Chesapeake Hills is a nice layout, has some character to it, and requires shot making. I like the look of the layout and I believe some of the more challenging par 3's around. However the course is in the worst shape of any course I have played in years. I know the last two summers have been hot but this course may take some time to get back to a nice little course to play. Calvert County now owns it and in this economy they may not spend the time & money to get it right. Too bad. I'd play this course often even if it was in ok shape. I'll come back spring of 2012. Doubt this course will get better through the fall.
