Much of my previous reviews still stands, but there have been some improvements. There are new owners (as of December 2015) and they have dumped a lot of money into the facility. First thing noticeable is the addition of a permanent tented room off the side (looks like for events), and the bathrooms have been completely redone! Take a look at the pictures--I was really impressed. Inside the clubhouse is also new with new tables and chairs, a bar area, and TV's at various places. For the course, they have put fine fluffy sand in most of the bunkers, redone much of the landscaping with attention to beautification, redone some of the bridges and railings (especially noticeable on #4), and a lot of resodding around bunkers and greens. They are really focused on returning this course to the pristine shape it was in when it first opened (and before Gotham Golf took it over and drove it into the ground). Kudos to the new owners for a great vision for this facility, and to the Super for working on the course to get it back into great shape. There's still some work to do, but it's headed in the right direction. My only complaint is the slow play. We had a foursome in front of us that had 1-1.5 holes open in front of them throughout both nines. By #17, they were so drunk (carrying their beer bottles up to the green with them) that they were moving extremely slow and had three groups stacked up behind them on this par 5 (four groups total on the hole). The course was not marshaled to keep people moving and even a call to the pro shop did nothing to rectify this. (And, they were rude and belligerent when it was pointed out they had a hole open in front of them.) Read the USGA Rules of Golf to learn about pace of play and keeping up with the group in front of you!

First visit this season, and course in good shape. Greens really fast--much faster than I thought they'd be. Fairways in good shape throughout the course. Rough was punishing, but playable with the correct club (so you don't just keep hacking it from spot to spot). Looks like they are working on some bunkers--edging some bunkers, great sand in some and not so good in others, and still other bunkers had stones in them (#9). So, they were a little inconsistent in terms of what to expect. Even with an outing out ahead of us, the pace was pretty good, and they had done a good job marking GUR in the fairways and on greens. And, #4 was actually looking pretty good--that green is always iffy. Nice staff, and the beverage cart came around a lot on a 93 degree day. With Tee Time Book, the senior rate was $30, which is a real deal for the shape of the course.

With the Tee Time Book, $45 after 11:00 on a weekend. Haven't played the course since the Spring, and in pretty good shape. The starter told us they have left the course a little long due to recent aeration and to protect against burn-out due to humidity. The tee boxes were a little long, but the fairways and greens were okay to play. The fairways were actually in good shape--green and filled in, and the greens were a tad long, a little bumpy (aeration holes), but rolling pretty true and average speed. (I thought they would have been slower.) I saw no dirt or burned-out edges on the greens which you typically see on #4 and #5. It appears they've been paying a lot of attention to bringing the greens back...they were watering #4 green when we played the hole. The rough was long and could be punishing. But, overall, the course is in excellent shape. Also, the marshalls came around and thanked us for playing, thanked us for staying up with the group in front of us, and generally just checked in to make sure everything was going well. Nice touch! And, the beverage cart made several rounds while we were there, although there was plenty of water out on the course. if you've had a bad experience in the past, try it again. I was impressed with the course conditions and attention to customer satisfaction.

Tee Time Book is $45 after 11:00 on weekend. I have always liked the layout of this course, and typically in good condition. They recently aerated the greens, and they were really fast. Some of the greens had rough spots, i.e., #4 which looked like GUR but not marked and #7 where they repaired green with cup cut outs. Fairways were in good shape, as was the rough (although it had not been cut--for obvious reasons as it had rained for 3 days straight). They are repairing bunkers--some are marked as GUR, have silt fences (#13), and others with very little sand. Even with all the rain, it was 90 degrees for carts which was nice. It looks like they are trying to improve the course; however, it always makes me nervous when I see Billy Casper Mgt because all their courses I've play just aren't in good shape (Eisenhower, Compass Point, the one in Lusby), so the jury is out for me if they are truly doing improvements or just spending the minimum to keep people coming. I'll try it again to see which it is.

We were given a $25 rate due to recently aerated greens (last week), which was nice customer service. I was pleasantly surprised about the condition of the fairways--I thought they were in pretty good shape. They were green and filled in nicely with very few bad spots. The greens were long and bumpy, and as a result rolled slowly; however, we knew to expect that. I am mixed on the bunkers--some had nice sand and were nice to play out of (#17), but others were red dirt and thin with pebbles. It looked like they were working on some of the bunkers, though. They have done some nice work on landscaping around the tee box signs/trash can areas, which was a nice touch. Additionally, I notice some asphalt on the cart path pull-over areas where in the past there had been gravel. It looks like they are putting some TLC into this course, so be patient. This is a nice layout with some easy holes and some risk-reward holes. They also have a nice snack bar on site.

I left here the last time saying I wouldn't be back, well I went back and things were better, I believe they are under new management. Greens were very slow and bumpy, Fairways were ok, Tees were ok, Roughs were burned in areas, Bunkers were very wet and unraked/worked from the overnight thunderstorm...some were unplayable...I believe a 3 rating is proper for an average golf course

Under new management. Course is not in great shape. Aerating greens today so expect slow bumpy and sandy. Fairways are mixed grass and weeds cut close. Tee boxes are fair. Most traps have the dark rocky dirt mixture. Rough is very thick.
Wait at least a month to hope for better conditions. Maybe.

Course is currently undergoing a limited number of repairs. Several greens are being treated for mold (???) and there is one temporary green. Other that that surfaces are in excellent conditions. Fairways and rough are good. Several tees are closed for reseeding, but there is at least two active tees on every hole. Excellent full snack bar.

Course was in excellent shape. Fairways were excellent, with thick lush grass. And, the greens were in wonderful shape--very green, filled in nicely (after recent aeration), good speed, and rolling true. Only one green (#6) had a few imperfections, but still a very playable green. The bunkers were wet from the overnight rain, but few had standing water. The course actually wasn't very wet which surprised me given the amount of rain. It drains pretty well. The only issue I could see was some of the tee boxes--some still showed aeration holes and others were filling in but not quite there. The rough was also long. There was absolutely no one on the course and we pretty much had it to ourselves. We played in 3.5 hours and for $30/cart in the Tee Time Book. Great deal!

Front 9 greens were not in good shape. Had brown spots running through out, bumpy, needed cut. One green had 4-wheel tracks on it. Back 9 greens were good. Fairways in good shape as was the rough. Traps were raked although some had water & some rocks. Most teeboxes were ok except for number 10 (all crabgrass). Looks like they are working on the conditioning

This course is worth playing at $50 or so, no more. Decent track in decent shape. Greens a little bumpy with poa annua intruding on the bentgrass. A couple of clunky holes but a nice set of finishing holes. Thumbs up for a 4.5 hour round and good service in the clubhouse.

I read previous reviews, so was a little hesitant to try Challedon, but glad I did. The course is in great shape. Tee boxes (except for the 1st Tee boxes) were completely filled in. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape--completely green and lush. The rough was even in good shape--long and thick, so word to the wise is stay out of it! The only area for improvement I saw was some (not all) of the bunkers. Some were red clay, and some had stones/rocks in them. Other bunkers, though, had nice sand so you just had to keep an eye out for which bunkers were trouble. Pace of play was nice at a little over 3 hours. They were punching the back 9 greens, and watering as well. Spoke with one of the guys and he told me they have a new superintendent (previously at Congressional) since April and he is getting the course back in shape. For those who had a bad experience earlier this year, you might want to give it a try again.

Course conditions were very good. Not excellent, but very close.
Challedon uses the tee it forward marking system. Use It so you don't slow my play :)
Fairways and tee boxes were nice. Greens were soft enough to stick the ball. Roll was about medium speed, but rolling true. Green and lush everywhere.
If I look for a negative, it would be that the rough was a little inconsistent in length.
Nice new carts. Staff was very pleasant with the usual exception of food/drink service inside.
I will play again as soon as possible.

I had never heard of this course but was invited to play for free. The course has a cool name but that is it. This place is not even a golf course and trust me I can tell this is not was this course is even close to good in the spring/summer. I wish I could think of one nice thing to say about this dump but I can't. What a waste of a beautiful late winter day. Thank God I'm going to Bayside, Baywood, & River Mash this week for some 70+ degree Eastern Shore golf. You would have much more fun if you took to the streets of Baltimore and played on asphalt.

This is still considered winter golf but the conditions at the Links are very bad. Tee Box's are mostly sand with sprigs of grass here and there, Fairways are patchy and I noticed several Irrigation Trench lines all over the course that have settled and are almost impossible to hit out of.now the Green's the worst of all, very bumpy with patches of Poa Anna and ball marks everywhere.Pace of play was very slow...like usual, It will be another 2 yrs before i play here again.

We teed off Sunday morning 10 min early. When we got to the first par 5 there were 3 groups on the hole. We made the 4th. Very slow the rest of the day. Like some of the other reviews the rough is entirely to long. You can waste a lot of time looking for your ball just off the fairway. It took 5 hours to play the round. It is a shame because except for a couple of greens the course is in excellant shape. The layout is nice and at $35.00 it is a bargain. Just wish the pace ofplay was a little faster.

I generally like this course--the layout, the conditions, and the staff. However, the course is in the worse shape I've ever seen it. Greens #4 and #5 have been lost (all dirt), and many of the others have dirt patches on them. The tee boxes are in much the same shape. The fairways are the best with being mostly green, but they have some spots which were water puddles or dirt patches. The bunkers are almost completely in disrepair--either standing water or eroded with rocks and clay showing. They were almost unplayable, and definitely not worth raking (although we did). For a Saturday afternoon, there were no marshalls. The front nine took 2.5 hours while we waited on every tee box. We were the 4th foursome on #10 and had to wait 20 minutes to tee off. After a call to the Pro Shop for a marshall, we were informed that two foursomes "stopped for lunch" and just went back out to play. What's that all about? I didn't know lunch breaks were included in the tee time! When the marshall checked, there were 4 holes open in front of those two foresomes and the round ended up taking 5.5 hours. I like this course and play it often, but I won't go back this year. Unless they are going to manage their tee sheet and pace of play better, it's too frustrating to take this long to play a course that typically plays in 4-4.5 hours.

I have played this course since it opened and have always enjoyed it..yesterday was somewhat different, there was no one monitoring play and the rough was absolutely ridiculous....come on guys, this is supposed to be a public golf course not the US Open.If you hit your ball anywhere in the rough it took 2 -3 people 10 minutes to find it,we spent half the round looking for balls in the rough...i'm very disappointed, just cut the rough!

I expected a tight course from some earlier reviews. However #3 is rediculous. Maybe 100 yards from OB left to OB right, and then they stick a pond that requires (by my guess) 250 carry on right side of the fairway. This gives you an extremely narrow target area if you can't carry 250.

I can deal with the tighness of the course, but the greens on the front nine were in horrible condition, but not from airation. Entire chunks of turf were missing. Back nine was a little more open, and greens were in better shape.

The main reason I am writting this review is that I called and asked what the rates would be on the day I played. I was quoted $49. When I arrived the price was $69. Honestly, this course should be no more than $45 on weekends. When I made the turn others were disputing the price in the clubhouse. I paid the $69, but will never go back, because of the dishonesty.

The Links at Challedon was in great condition today, the fairways were flawless and the rough was thick. The greens were aerated about a week ago so they were a little tough to putt on, but they are only a couple of days away from being great. I loved the layout of the course, with wide open fairways and monster bunkers. The hotdog at the turn was great, can't wait to go back!

After several days of heavy rain, course was a little waterlogged, particularly the sand traps. In spite of that greens were generally good with a couple of brown spots. Fairways and rough were the same. Tees were a little beat up. Snack bar had a good selection of items but was a little costly.

Challedon is in great shape right now. Greens are well kept despite lots of ball marks. Fairways, with some brown patches here and there, were great to hit off of. The 17th is a great Par 5 and begs for you to go over a pond to reach the green in 2; reminds me of the scene in Tin Cup. Also, getting in 18 in just over 4 hours was fantastic, especially on a Sunday morning.

I took a friend from church while we on our way to our mens retreat for a quick 9 holes. We needed a course with a driving range to practice before we hit the links. The driving range was nice. The pro shop is well equipment and the staff are friendly and helpful. The course is great and challenging. The 6th hole is a steep up hill fairway which was a little intimidating but, I did pretty well there. We let a couple of foursomes play through and they had some trouble hitting into the trees on the left but all and all we really liked the course. We ate lunch in the club house and the crab cakes were great. The restrooms were clean and well keep. Over all a very nice course.

The clubhouse has been repainted and bathroom's redone. The customer service level has risen as apposed to past years at the course. Course conditions were very well maintained than in the past and the workers seemed like they really enjoyed being their. That day was a great day for January and the course was very crowded and pace of play was around 4 and half hours. Can't wait to go back in the spring.
