Hollow Creek is reopened as Richland. New owners are making a strong effort rehabbing this outstanding layout. Fairways are coming along well. Greens are generally in excellent condition with a few spotty areas. Traps still need a little work. This course is a tough course and it is good to see that is getting back in shape. It's in the T-Time book at $26.00.

I hadn't realized how bad the situation has gotten at Hollow Creek.

Last time I played there was back in October. My group decided to play there today. No driving range - the guy said somebody stole all their range balls. Pro shop is completely empty. They had a few scorecards and pencils, that's it. The carts have no windscreens, rain canopies, or sand bottles, and mine had barely any brakes.

It looks like they have just minimal staff for maintenance - we saw just one guy driving all over the place turning sprinklers on and off. The greens are pretty well cared for and the fairways are okay except for some places where they are doing major rebuilding. But the rough is a complete disaster - some places so thick as to be unplayable, others beaten down by traffic and lack of water - and they have totally given up on the bunkers. The guy in the clubhouse said just take a drop from any bunker without sand, which was almost all of them.

Hopefully the new ownership gets things back on track. I drove 70 miles to play there today, and won't do that again until I hear some good news about the place.

This course is well designed with a few "querks" here and there. Par 4s are reachable in 2, par threes are long, and par 5s are narrow. All good fun.
Tee boxes and fairways are fine. Traps are lacking on sand here and there. The greens were super soft with a lot of blemishes and wear.
Non senior will pay a full 50 % more per person. Definitely geared toward the senior golfer. Their stated fees do NOT include taxes. We are a mixed group, so the non seniors are not happy.
The 19th hole was again, irrelevant. In the morning, no one was there. At the turn there were people mopping the floors and no one would acknowledge you. Two times golfing here 8 customers were able to purchase absolutely nothing to eat or drink. Nothing. There was no water on the courses either. Disappointing if you golf early or during the week.
I like the course design. I don't think I would recommend. I'm "on the fence" with this course. There are better courses in the area.

Overnight rain made the fairways slushy and many bunkers filled with water. Greens recently aerated but recovering nicely and very fast. Fairways were mostly playable, except for some low spots. Like the layout of this course, except for #9...I just don't like this hole, especially off the forward tees (tee off with a 6 iron and have to hit a 5W or 3W to have any chance to get to the green depending on pin placement). Slow play in front of us--had at least 1 sometimes 2 holes in front of them open. Able to get in front of them on the turn, only to catch another foursome who had 1 hole open in front of them for the entire back nine. No marshalls. What is it about "keep up with the group in front of you" that these guys don't understand? For $65, not a bad value. Have a great grill with lots of different beers, so give it a try.

I wanted to hate this course for giving me the worst round of the year. But, that was my fault.
I don't usually like courses with housing developments built within. This was not as bad as I thought it would be.
Starter was a fantastic gentleman and very helpful. The 19th hole pub was deserted and didn't have anything quick to eat at the turn. It's probably nice at night or on the weekends. Did not do us any good.
Tee boxes were good, fairways were good with crabgrass creeping in to them and the fringe of greens. Greens were pretty bad from aerating. New sprigs coming in and they were slow and couldn't get a true roll. They are wavy, so not an easy 2 putt.
A few environmental areas to carry here and there. Par 3s are head scratchers when you are standing on the tee box and haven't played here before. Some par 3s you can hit and roll others you must carry 180 yards. Ball/club washers were dry and one cart was not charged enough for play.
The 150 markers must be to the front of the green? I should have verified. More yardage markers would be nice.
18 is a great hole coming back in to the clubhouse. Has a nice view.
I would play again. Layout is nice and holes are different throughout.
The biggest drawback to this course is that there were a lot of bugs/gnats on the course.

Course was in great condition, for a greens fee of $75 on a Sat morning, it is one of the best deals around. Greens, fairways and tee boxes were in great condition. The course layout offers a lot of different looks throughout, greens for the most part are fairly large, however you must be aware of many downward sloping greens at the back. You should definitely bring your bug spray when you play this course, I am not sure if we just hit the course at a bad time, but at some points the bugs were extremely distracting. Overall, great course and would definitely recommend.

Haven't played the course in 5 years. It's a nice layout, with the exception of #9...short off the tee and a long carry over a ravine. Just a bit choppy. Tee boxes and fairways in good shape. The greens on the front nine in great shape, but the back nine had recently been aerated and still had punch holes, so not as nice as the front. The bunkers had a mixture of sand--some with good sand, others with more dirt. Looks like they are working on #18 with the two big bunkers GUR and several dirt spots in the fairway. I do like this layout and the good condition of the course. The pace was a tad slow--we waited on every hole/every shot...and we never saw a marshall. The staff was nice and welcoming, and the price with the Tee Time Book on a Saturday morning was $58.

Course is obviously in great shape, too bad we had very soggy conditions today. Standing water in some fairways and most bunkers had pools of water surrounded by mud. The "floater" range balls are a bit of a pain but at least it's something to warm up with. Houses all over the place, especially 7-8 where I feel like I'm playing for a crowd. Pretty good layout, best thing about the course are the greens, which are in terrific shape, lots of undulations and were plenty fast despite the wet conditions. #18 is one of the best eagle opportunities around, par-5 only about 420 yards. Apparently it was originally a par-4 but they decided it was too hard. I think #9 is harder. My chip for eagle missed by about 8 inches today, I'll be back in drier weather to give it another try.

Course is in superb condition. Greens are very fast but smooth as a carpet. Fairways are like most greens at other courses. Traps are good but a little wet due to the heavy rains last night. Staff members are all excellent. Course is extremely challenging, particularly with the ultra fast green conditions today.

Very Intresting Golf Course, Great Range and Clubhouse, Wall to Wall Bentgrass, Rolling Contoured Greens, Lots of Elevation Change. No Gps and poor Markings, even though most sprinkler heads are marked and course does use Prisms on the Flagsticks for RangeFinders.Pace of Play was Great. Great 19th Hole, attractive Female Staff, even though she was wearing an Ovechkin Jersey.

Course was in fair condition for wintertime. There is minimal maintenance going on but greens and fairways are in Ok condition. Traps are excellent for winter. Decent winter rates for a course of this caliber. Limited snack bar duing the off season.

Playing on the day before New Years Eve a win, so I complain about anything. Greens were in really good shape and the fairways were cut. Nice course, fun to play.

This is a challenging layout and in excellent condition all around. Greens, fairways, rough, and tee boxes are all in excellent condition. A few traps had a small amount of standing water (to be expected after the recent heavy rains). Snack bar has excellent selection but is a bit pricey. Light play and good winter rates make this a good autumn option.

Discovered this course last fall and have played several enjoyable rounds since... We played on April 26, the course is challenging, with a variety of shots required. It has plenty of length and difficulty... The fairways were green and fast, the greens undulating and challenging and had only a few imperfections. It's a great course! Enjoy your round and be sure to have an after-round snack in the clubhouse...

I read about this course in a local guide and decided to take a chance. Boy, was it worth it! This course was in great condition from tee to green. There are plenty of challenging holes but good shots will be rewarded. The staff was friendly and helpful and the pro shop well stocked. I will definitely return.

Hollow Creek is one of Frederick County's fine courses. The course design is excellent as there are no two holes alike and no blind tee shots. The greens and fairways were manicured to perfection.

Course was in excellent condition. 18 unique holes and not a dogleg to be found. Instead, they make it challenging with skinny fairways, strategic bunkers, and serpentine greens. Don't just attack the pin; smart approach shots are a must. Overall very enjoyable golfing experience.
