On Memorial Day, was $46 with the Tee Time Book. That's a good deal! However, I'm not sure it was enough to make up for the slow, slow, SLOW pace of play. It was just over 5 hrs. We didn't tee until after 11:00 (knowing people would play early to get to afternoon cookouts), but they were all stacked up. This course should consider 10 min tee times vs the 8 min they have. They don't marshal and they don't push people who get out of position. Course was in excellent condition, except the rough was SO LONG you couldn't find your ball! They hadn't cut it, they said, due to rain; however, it was almost unplayable. That coupled with people playing from the tips who only hit their drive 150-180 yards (even on par 3's) just made for a terrible day. I don't think I can handle a weekend again! They keep the course in tip-top shape--now they have to learn how to manage it for a reasonable time to play!

With the Tee Time Book, $45 on a Saturday after 11:00. Great deal for a Saturday! The course is in excellent condition, especially for a municipal. The fairways were green and lush...almost like playing on carpet. The rough was also lush, but they had it cut to a playable length--was a little challenging in places to get out of, but not punitive. The bunkers were excellent (if you like bunkers). I was in a few and able to get out easily and nestle close to the pin. Nice, fluffy sand. And, the greens were excellent as well...running about 9 on the Stimp, held the line nicely, and generally not difficult. The staff very nice and welcoming. The only reason for the 4 vs. 5 rating is due to the pace of play...ugh! It always takes 5+ hours to play this course and it's not because of the difficulty of the course! The marshall stopped to see us on #15 (while there were 4 groups on this hole) and said it was "all stacked up in front" of us. If I didn't like the course so much, I wouldn't make the hour drive from the Baltimore area--but I just am resigned that it will be at least 5 or more hours to play. Take your patience for the waiting!

This course always seems to be in great condition. The fairways were full and well manicured, and the greens were excellent, although extremely fast. (I had 5 3-putts, which is very unusual for me.) I gave 4 stars vs. 5 for this reason...almost unfair. The rough was long, but they were mowing while we were there. Great staff, got us out about 30 mins early, and we played in a little over 4 hrs. This course, for a muni, is kept in such good shape it can rival some of the private courses I've played. Kudos to the super! Only 45-50 mins. from the Arundel Mills area.

Great day for golf. I would estimate that 95 % of the players were seniors paying the senior rate for the same golf on the same course with the same carts etc....everyone in my group, and most of the people on the course, payed the "prevailing fee" aka senior rate. I had to pay a premium to play on this same course. I am outraged by this disparity.
I overheard someone on the course make a factual statement that I did not agree with. Because everyone did not have the same views that I do, I was unable to enjoy my round that I paid a premium for. I will boycott courses that don't charge the exact same rates for everyone and have patrons with only my way of thinking.

With Tee Time Book, $45 after 11:00 on Saturday. A good deal! The same as my review last year this time, the course is in exceptional shape. Green lush fairways, thick and long rough, the greens in excellent shape, and the bunkers thick with nice sand. The pace was a tad slow on the front nine, but thinned out on the back and picked up. We ended up playing in about 4.5 hours on a beautiful day, so nothing to complain about. Beverage cart was out the entire round. All staff nice and welcoming. This is a great course for a muni, and gives you an opportunity to really grip n rip on the majority of the holes...not too many target holes. Worth the 50 minute drive from the Baltimore area.

For a muni, this course is exceptional! Hats off to the Super...the entire course is simply lush. The fairways are excellent, the greens are true and consistent, and the rough was thick and longer than most courses. (They just had an Open Qualifier there two weeks before so in tip-top shape.) The bunkers were even nice. I haven't played this course since the late 90's, and don't know why it's taken me so long to go back. Great clubhouse, great staff, nice course layout with excellent conditions. The only problem we had was slow play. We called the Pro Shop on #6 and the Pro came out to try to speed things up; but we ended up playing through them on #10, and the back nine was under 2 hrs as a result. Less than an hour from the Baltimore area. I'll definitely play again.

Wow, what a course and the only thing I can complain about is why it took me so long to play it. The mixed reviews often left me playing Whisky Creek or MD National when I come up this way but I was blown away. If the course was in tis great of shape I can only imagine when the weather is nice. Top notch course however I did not check out the clubhouse but I came for golf not food or equipment.

Played on a Sunday. $54 bucks. Greens were soft & a little fuzzy (poa anna heads?). They were a little slow but rolled true. Traps were great. Primary rough was thick but playable. Love to play this course, move it to Anne Arundel County, put it where Eisenhower is

Course in good shape overall. Greens were a little slow with some unrepaired or badly repaired ballmarks. Some of the traps were still drying out and they needed raked. Had a fun time. Course is a confidence builder

The greens were just cut and rolled. Firm and fast greens throughout.
I almost always like this course. The conditions are always good to excellent.
Thank the frederick taxpayers and municipal muscle that allow this course to be well maintained and access plenty of "free" water during the dry seasons.
The starters are usually cordial and helpful. The inside workers are like DMV staff.
I like this course and would recommend to anyone. Weekends are SLOW play.

Came back to give the golf course another try after about an 8 year hiatus, pretty much like I remembered, very short, open golf course.Definately a Muni style golf course, but great for a beginner, senior, hacker or anyone looking for a confidence builder.

I have never been disappointed in this course. Fairways, rough, greens, and traps are all in excellent condition. Staff is friendly and helpful. Snack bar is excellent but with a limited menu. Definitely a must play if you haven't tried it yet.

Course looks like it will be in great shape when spring comes. Greens, fairway, and rough, although domant, are in great shape. Winter rates are great too ($25) during the week. Also snack bar is up and running all winter.

A pretty typical muni. Decent condition, though the greens are still showing the effects of the fall season aerification. Easy course, not much trouble off the tee, lots of short par-4's. Bad pace of play. Front nine took 2.5 hours. We played the front nine twice to get the round in before dark.

Once again, course is in fantastic condition with an excellent senior rate of $29. Fairways, greens, and traps were all in near perfect condition. Greens were fast but true and traps (where I spent most of the day) had fluffy playable sand. Snack bar had wide selection of menu options.

Course is in excellent condition for winter time. Fairways have good dormant grass on them and greens roll true with reasonable speed. Excellent bargain for this time of year.

Frederick County has a bunch of pretty sweet courses, but which one is the best? I bet you wouldn't say Clustered Spires. However, taking everything in to consideration (cost, conditions, staff) I think Clustered Spires tops the Frederick's. I believe this is the only municipal in Frederick County, and the conditions are among the best. Today the course was in perfect condition.

Course is in excellent condition and the staff obviously works hard to keep it that way. Greens rolled true and held high pitch shots. Fairways were full and ball sat on top of grass. Traps had good sand even though it rained the night before. Even the tees were spotless. Layout is not particularly challenging from the whites, but I love the course.

I play this course quite frequently and am never disappointed. This year they have added a picturesque waterfall between the 1st tee and 9th greens, added both a pond and green-fronting bunker to the 11th hole and converted the waste area on the par 3 16th hole into a sizable lake. The entire course (management, tee boxes, fairways and service) is in excellent condition. But what sets this course apart are the greens which are always perfect and very challenging even this early in the season. It always amazes me that the head greenskeeper has not been hired away by one of the local upscale courses. This course is truly a municipal gem and well worth the trip.

Great course to play out in Frederick County. Clustered Spires is a worthwhile hour drive from Baltimore. The greens were very challenging and in perfect condition. The fairways for the most part were in good condition however the rough was very dry. Overall Clustered Spires is a great deal for only $55 during peak hours.
