I played Pendleton yesterday and the greens rolled very well, the fairways looked good and the improvements they made on a couple holes, I think number 2 and 10 were very beneficial compared to the last time I played there. If you uprooted Pendleton and moved it to California, it would sell for three times the price to play. It's a challenge from any of the five tee markers you choose.

I've played Pendleton many times since it opened and thoroughly enjoyed the course every time I've played, whether it be in a tournament, with friends or playing on my own. Although I've had fun playing there, I recently had an experience involving staff that left me in awe.

It started with the Director,Jim Mason, I asked him about a twilight special that was offered the prior summer(my friends and I played it almost every weekend)and he told me there was no such thing and looked at me like I was an idiot for even asking. I didn't want to argue so I paid for 9 holes and went on my way.

My next issue was with whom I believe was the Marshall that day. I'm putting my bag on the back of a cart when I noticed the cart was drenched inside and out from being washed off. I didn't want to get my shorts wet so I chose a cart in the middle of the line that was dry, apparently the Marshall didn't like it to well. He said, with an attitude, the one in the back is almost dry. Any other day a wet cart wouldn't have bothered me but today I was playing with my fiancee and preferred a dry one.

Waiting to tee off was a train-wreck, carts everywhere, extremly disorganized. I decided since its only me playing, (my fiance was just riding along) that I would play the back nine holes (hole #10 had no one teeing off, other golfers waiting said they hadn't seen anyone there in a while) as I'm getting ready to tee off, the Marshall yells to me that I can't play that hole. I scratch my head and ask why, there's no one there and it's just me, I'm not great but I'll play faster than all the foursomes lined up to tee off at #1. The Marshall said the Director didn't want me playing there. I drove the cart back and went inside to speak with the Director. I ask the Director what the problem is and he said he didn't want me starting at #10, that there was a group that would be there any minute. I told the Director the group isn't there, its just me playing and the group would never know I'm in front of them (You don't have to be a genius to figure that out, why would you make a single player only playing 9 wait, when you could start them on the back 9 that had no one teeing off!). After telling Jim how unbelievably crappy the attitudes and service at his facilty are, I asked for a refund, which he seemed more than happy to give.

The experience that I had was very disappointing. I've played golf for over 12 years and have never been treated like this before. Although I've enjoyed playing Pendleton, there are plenty of other courses in the area where I will be spending my money from now on. I will be sure to inform others of my experience here and be sure to discourage them from wasting their money there as well!

Sounded like the guy in the clubhouse(Jim) was offended when asked about aeration....played it anyway for $30 off VSGA card.....very nice condition, tee boxes and fairways(some a little bare in spots) were in great shape.Greens were recently aerated but rolled good.Had to whistle at a "crew" on 15 that we were hitting our tee shots, they never moved just ducked when the ball sailed over their heads, grass mowers very courteous in quieting their equip. when hitting shots. No snack cart anywhere, got a hot dog at the turn and the old woman running the snack bar took her dear time in fixing it.Overall though, beautiful golf course....50 miles from Richmond though!!!

Small sections of greens and a few fairways had recent aeration. Fairways were fairly wide for a tree-lined course with many mounts and some two-tiered tricky greens. Nice layout, but many lengthy rides between greens to next tee box.

Coming back from Williamsburg this March, we weren't able to play Pendleton due to rain. So, we put it on our summer travel calendar and finally got there today. This is a great layout that is well on its way to becoming a great course. I think it's only been open for three years, so parts of the fairways are still evolving. But, the traps were great...not that anyone every goes in there!!! And the greens, many of which were very undulating on the front nine, were true and of reasonable speed. Driving from Arlington, this course is just as close as the Gauntlet, Cannon Ridge, and Lee's Hill...so give it a try sometime. Gas and golf index from Arlington, buying a Pendleton Pack online, was $36. We'll be going back to Pendleton real soon...

The bent grass fairways were in horrible condition and the greens were being aerated. Very limited course markings (unless you bought a course guide book for $6.50) and there seemed to be little rhyme or reason for the layout. No drinking water on the course ($2.50 in the pro shop) and no ball washers at the tee boxes.

It was 45 in Baltimore so we took a 2 hour trip to VA to play this course. We were looking forward to the weather more then anything it was almost 70 in Feb. Anyway the course was a hidden treasure. Not an easy course for your first time out it plays very long. Anyway the fairways were not green as I indicated but nice and fluffy I guess is the best word in a good way. Anyway anyone looking to play a great course and maybe catch some decent northeast weather should check it out.

They have spent money on the conditioning of the course and it SHOWS. New sod has come in to make fairways great shape again and the greens are WONDERFUL, just wish I could read them!

This is a new course near King's Dominion. The bermuda fwys were in horrible condition. There was a lot of high grass off the fwys. The course is a brute, but I would wait a while to try. Definitely call first to see if the fwys have recovered.
