Found a mid-morning Weekend tee time via GolfNow at a decent price, so decided to give it a shot. Was generally wary of a course that only measured 5500 from the tips, but was surprised by the challenge. It's totally exemplary of the best (and worst) of target golf.
The Starter hands out a tip sheet at the onset of your round, follow it's recommendations. Went in thinking fire away, 6 holes later that slip of paper was the Bible. Off the tee there can be 200+ forced carries, with no bail outs, and scrub brush that envelopes anything that falls into it (that said, came out about +18 on balls for the shag bag, so that's a plus).
Some of the tee boxes were a little torn up; and in certain areas crab grass was sneaking into the fairways and tees. However the greens were in good shape (if only people could fix their own ball marks, had to do about 6 a hole), if a little shaggy ergo slower than one would expect based on this Summer's weather.
- No "turn" per se, but a snack hut stands after the 6th and 12th holes.
- Absolutely no issues with pace of play for a 2-some at 10:52 on a Sunday.
- No bugs coming off the Occoquan, but there was a breeze that probably kept them at bay.
- Don't pay any heed to the distances on the placards next to each tee, they weren't particularly right. GolfLogix GPS was more accurate.
All in all, would I play again? Probably, but coming from Rockville I might just stick to the Little Bennett's of the world.
