Back again! Similar findings...all staff regardless of position extremely nice and just seemed to be genuinely glad you were there. We hit No. VA traffic and was detained--called the pro shop and they said they were use to it and just come along...they would get us out. Great customer service! We were about 20 minutes late, but they got us right out. The course is still not in pristine shape...lots of bare spots in the fairways (dirt and no grass) throughout the course, and greens were just okay. With the Tee Time Book, it was $55 after 11:00. I like the layout of this course, but only rate it average at this time based on course conditions. They still have some work to do. But, they get 5 stars for customer service.

Have been wanting to play this course, so did so today. First, with the Tee Time Book it was $55 after 11:00 which is a good price for this course. The staff was wonderful--from the cart/bag attendants, to the Pro Shop, to the Beverage Cart girl. Everyone very helpful, welcoming, and trying to ensure a good golf experience. Now for the course...I liked the layout, although the first three holes are tough starting holes. #1 has a split fairway with environmental between the fairways; #2 has water down the left and the fairway rolls right to left;
and #3 is a blind shot from the tee and going into the green unless you're inside the 150. After that, lots of environmental areas and the need for good course management, but certainly playable. Fairways were pretty nice with a couple of browned out spots. The bunkers need a bit more sand, although they were nicely raked. The greens had a bunch of unrepaired divots, and almost every green had newly laid sod around the edges--looks like they are trying to make repairs. The course was not in as pristine shape as some of their sister Raspberry Trail courses, but it looks like they are working on it. This course is tough, with the tips at 73.2/140 (6725 yds) and the regular whites at 69.4/132 (5871 yds). Take your patience with you because of awkward bounces and a couple of narrow landing areas. The reason it's rated a 3 is because of slow play. It was 5 hrs and we waited on every tee and every shot--a twosome and a foursome in front of us played through a very slow threesome, but we couldn't get through them. They had a hole open in front of them even after the foursome played through--the course needs to be marshalled, especially on weekends. The other reason for the lower rating is the No. VA traffic just makes it almost unbearable to get to any No. VA courses. MapQuest states 1 hr 20 mins, and it took over 2 hrs. Not the courses fault, but it's located in a place which is just hard to get to. A nice layout and will test every club in your bag...not a push over.

Used to play this course quite a bit. Started going downhill about 5 years ago and was re-purchased. They seem to be moving in the right direction although the greens could have been better. The lady in the snack area was very nice and accommodating. Hopefully this course can get back to what it was several years ago.

After reading some mediocre reviews and then playing Augustine for the first time today, I wanted to post my own review. I really enjoyed my time there today. Called this morning and asked if they could accommodate a single. The woman said "no problem, just come on out." After bypassing the bag drop, a guy came out to greet me and take my clubs. The starter was a very nice guy and asked if I wanted to go out alone or be paired up. I said I didn't care. He said I could head out immediately or hit some complimentary balls, my choice. I hit some balls and by that time another single had come in and we were paired up. At the end of the round, the same guy that met me in the parking lot cleaned my clubs as we putted out on 18. As for service, I thought it was really top notch.

As for the course, I thought it was a nice track overall. Fair, pretty, mostly in good shape. There were some issues. Two of the greens were in very rough shape, but based on the overall condition of most of the greens, the fairways and tee boxes, it seems that was due to circumstances out of their control and not neglect. And #9 was a temporary green because they are replacing it. They were upfront about it, had 8 guys working on it when we passed by, and apologized for the temporary green. All the water coolers were full of ice cold water, although disappointingly, many of the ball washers were dry.

Aside from a few picky things, I paid $60 and was very pleased with the experience. Even though I live 35 miles away in Alexandria, I'll be back.

I was the last one to review Augustine about two years ago, and at that time it was in pretty bad shape. But, since then it has been taken over by the folks who run Raspberry Falls Group, and it is almost all the way back to what it was when it first opened. Except for a couple of greens that were a bit sparse, the course was in great shape. Good news, because this is one of the best public courses in Northern Virginia. P.S. I could not find any reviews of this course on any other website other than yelp.com, which really isn't the medium most golfers look to for course information. Golfers, please post reviews, because without you the Local Golfer can't provide a singular and important service to us about course conditions.

The greens at Augustine have been attacked by something called pillium and are in very poor shape. Management is doing everything they can to bring them back, and the fairways are in their usually excellent shape. Give the course a call before you head out, and I'm sure they'll tell you just what the conditions are. They have reduced the greens fee while they are rehabilitating the greens. This is still a good track and hopefully they can bring it back.

Augustine GC did not properly apply $20 discount advertised in the Tee Time Pass Booklet. I was charged $38. Augustine GC website states regular Thursday rate is $40. This definitely is not a $58 course.

With all the winter snow and spring rain, I really would have thought that Augustine would have been further along by now. But, alas, it appears to be under new management yet again, and that may have something to do with the diminished condition. The bermuda fairways should come in once the course gets some rain and it warms up, and the greens were in good shape. This is still a great track. Golf and gas index from Arlington was $40.

Despite what I'd heard and what had been written here, Augustine was actually in pretty good shape despite the lack of rain over the past month. Generally the fairways were good(there's still grass on the second fairway!)-a couple of them had been cut rather long and/or were thin, but they were more than playable, and one member of my foursome preferred them this way rather than the normal tight way they cut them. The greens were in good shape, and, although it appeared that several bunkers could have used more sand, I got out the three times I ventured there. The rough had been cut short, but because it's bermuda, the ball frequently disappears even though the rough is only a couple of inches high. I think that this a still a great track and am hopeful that the new management can restore it to being one of the best in Northern Virginia. Gas and golf index from Arlington was $32-gas up in Garrisonville. I'd really appreciate other reviews of this course, because this is my fourth posting of the five.

Hot-weather fairways are almost "in," and once we realized that the greens were slower than the practice green, they were perfect. And Number 2 had grass and was dry despite all the welcome rain we've had lately. Gas and golf index from Arlington was $38.

We played the last round of our semi-annual competition for the _______
Cup at Augustine on Saturday, and the course was in excellent shape. The traps had not yet dried out from the recent deluges, so they were a bit dicey, but otherwise everything was perfect-lush bermuda fairways and pristine greens of reasonable speed. We teed of at 10:30, waited a bit on the first two holes which might just be the most difficult openers in Northern Virginia, played at a relaxing pace until no one was in front of or behind us, let a fast-moving foursome blow by at the turn, and after that we had the course to ourselves on a Saturday- it's as if we owned the course! Gas and golf index carpooling from Arlington on a Saturday was $53(with a reduced rate from clickateetime.com), and it was worth every penny!!!

The great Bermuda fairways at Augustine have not quite come in yet, but this is still one of the best courses in the area.

I played Augustine before, around mid summer time, course had always been in great condition. This year I played it early, not fully green yet, although it is a must play course.
