Overview: Penderbrooke GC was an amazing GC way back in the day. Over the years I've seen management companies come and go, which took its toll on the course. Recently, Traditional Golf Properties, who manages Stonewall GC, Royal New Kent, and Stonehouse to name a few in Virginia has taken over Penderbrooke GC. I stopped playing at Penderbrooke a few years back because of either "very" slow play or awful green or fairway conditions. A few of my colleagues who work near Penderbrooke said lets go out and play since it was supposed to be a beautiful day. I was hesitant because of past issues, but was surprised in its transformation.

First Impressions: Traditional GP is working hard to put the shine back into this great and fun course. They have a marshal working the course so that pace of play is kept up. Its been years since I had seen a marshal working the course at Penderbrooke. From the Pro Shop, Starter to folks in the restaurant - this is a great place to be. Welcome Back Penderbrooke.

Green Conditions: They were recently aerated and had a top layer of stand

Tee Boxes: Interesting to see the Senior and Lady Tees placed together for all 18 holes. White Tee and Blue Tee Boxes on a few holes needed to be moved because of over use.

Fairways: Green and fast

Beverage Cart Service: None for Weekday Play.

Restaurant: Years back Penderbrooke was the place to be. I first learned about it from a friend who lived in the community. I would meet her after work for a drink and dinner. Like its sister course at Stonewall, they cater not only to the golfer but to the entire community. The food during this visit was great and the staff outstanding.

Never played the course and wanted to try it. First, the good news... Staff very nice and welcoming. Got us out 20 mins. early. The fairways and greens in good condition, and very green. The greens, though, were extremely fast, and had subtle slopes and ridges that would take the ball off the edge. The bad news... very slow. By hole #5, we were backed up with 3 groups on the tee box at any given time. Plus, the layout of this course is really quirky, especially holes #8-#10. As a first-time visit, I had to ask one of those groups waiting on the tee box where we were headed on #8. With 5 par 3's, the layout, and only 3 sets of tees (the "white" at 5760), it really added to the slow pace and "in-coming" balls across fairways. Some guys behind us were playing, I guess, what they thought were the "men's whites" and hitting into us, when they should have been playing the tips at 6151 (which is traditional length for "men's whites"). This is an average community course, but not one I would visit again. The price break was at 11:00 ($70 down to $55). If I had paid $70 for this course, I would have been upset...not worth that kind of money.

Went to play with some friends a few days after the major storm hit the Washington DC area. The temps were in the upper 90's and we got out at 11:30, for $54.00 round of golf. They did clean the trash from the fairways, but because of the heat, the fairways looked dry and damaged. The greens were soft, because of the constant watering. The group in front was so slow, we played several holes over and over, or until they moved. No Marhshall to be seen. 3 weird holes, over water greeted us on holes 8, 9 and 10. The 10th, is a Par 3, and to be honest, its seen better days. I assume when you walked off 9, you could pick something up to eat, but the station looked to be closed and the bathrooms were very dirty. We also noticed signs to the community about walking or riding bikes on the cart paths. Well, on the back, we ran into a bunch of people walking on the cart paths. We had to wait on several occasions for them to move so we could hit our shots. Never Again.

A quirky golf course to say the least... It's obvious that the superintendent takes great care of the greens, they were in great condition. The fairways were reasonably well taken care of as well. But the tee boxes seemed as they were totally ignored by the staff, some had more dirt than grass, others had low and high spots and some only had clumps of crab grass to stick a tee into. The driving range consisted of a few mats in front of a net, and chipping was not allowed on the putting green. We obtained discounted green fees for our round, and determined that the discounted portion of the fee must've paid a former cleaning staff. The restrooms in the clubhouse needed cleaning and the restrooms located at the "closed" snack bar located at the ninth green hadn't been cleaned in weeks, probably longer.

How about some love for Penderbrook Golf Club!?!?!?!? I really don't understand the recent slams of this course-it is was it is: close in, reasonably priced, layout a bit funky in spots, and greens and fairways usually in very good condition, as they were this time around. Golf and gas index from Arlington was $32. Play your tee time right, and you might just score "breakfast" and "lunch!"

This was the first course I played in NoVa since relocating and once was enough. I think this was $68 dollars for a dogpatch of a course. The greens were rough, lots of brown area and hardpan, not much character, and pretty much a bland golfing experience. Maybe good for beginners but any decent players will not like this course. Played OK for time and facilites are simple muni food and snacks.

To start, the staff was sub par. The fairways were par. The greens were awful. The greens were covered in sand and were in awful condition. There was a lack of respect for the game as very few ball marks were repaired. The best part of the Penderbrook experience was the free breakfast, which consisted of bagels, OJ and coffee.
Try avoid.

Considering the drought, the course was in pretty good shape. The greens were good and the fairways had a few brown spots. The tee boxes were pretty torn up and the rough was burnt. The fairways were tight and there was a lot of water. Very challenging course.
