At Swan Point on business and decided to play. A friend of mine told me about a month ago it was "in bad shape." However, I didn't find that to be true. There were a couple of greens where they had laid new grass/sod, and there were a couple of dirt spots (like #4 where it looks like they have shortened the end of the fairway because they are having trouble getting grass to grow), but for the most part it was in a good, playable shape. The rough, as usual, is long with balls sinking to almost out of sight. And, the greens were a tad slow, but certainly playable and rolling true. It's not in exceptional or even excellent shape, but it is in good shape. The staff is always friendly and inviting, and they have a wonderful grill.

Swan Point is in pretty good shape. A few patches of crabgrass have infiltrated the Bermuda in places, and some of the fringe areas around the greens have a little bit of a bluegrass infestation. Still the conditions are much better than many other premium public courses in the area at the end of the summer.

Today's round was a little slow, front 9 took 2.5 hours. I was able to pass one very slow group on 14th tee and the course was pretty much open ahead of them. It only takes one slow group to make everyone's day difficult. I know one group behind me gave up after only 5 holes.

I love the fact that this course has a grass practice range, though I do wish they'd offer a larger bag of range balls. ( I imagine if you asked for two bags they'd probably accommodate you - management here seems pretty laid-back and agreeable.) Also no chipping practice area.

But these are small quibbles. Swan Point is a long haul for me (60+ miles) and I only manage to do it once a season, but it's always worth it.

With the Tee Time Book, the cost was $49. Not a bad deal on a holiday. Pro's: Nice layout with a variety of holes; greens in good shape (except #6, which was loosing the edges); fairways mowed and very playable; great grille with excellent food; and staff very friendly and accommodating...got us out 30 mins early. Con's: Must have had a lot of rain overnight as the course was pretty wet, including bunkers; rough is punishing, as your ball sinks to the roots and it's tough to get it out; and the pace was slow with no marshals (but we blew through them on the turn and was able to speed up a bit). I like this layout, but hate the rough! The key...stay in the fairway! Sometimes easier said than done. Try Swan Point if you haven't. The first 4 holes get your attention, and then it eases up a bit but still will provide some challenge.

Course is in great shape. No problems with greens, traps, fairway or rough. Excellent midcourse snack shop. There was a fivesome playing two groups in front for the first seven holes shen the marshall broke them up. Too bad this course is so far from Baltmore.

One of my favorite layouts, I really like the variety of holes on this course. Not overly long, but challenging with all the marsh/tidewater, water, and bunkers strategically placed. The fairways in decent shape, but the rough was brutal...as it always is. Unfortunately, the greens were not in good shape--lots of dirt spots throughout and spikes marks all over. Additionally, the bunkers need some sand. There was only about an inch or less of sand over top an extremely hard base...it was like hitting concrete. Not good for the shoulders. We had a special off Golfnow.com for $38 so it was a good deal, but this course needs a little TLC. Still one of my favorites, though. Also, had dinner at the restaurant. Great food, good service, and the manager kept checking on us to ensure we were happy. Reasonably priced as well. I wish this course wasn't so far from the Baltimore Metro area--usually takes me 1.5 hours, but today with traffic and accidents, I had to take a detour around 495 and down Rt. 5 and it took 2 hrs. 15 minutes. Ugh....

Tough course and in great shape. Greens and traps are perfect in spit of the fact that the greens were recovering from aeration. Fairways were still in winter condition but there were vitually no bare spots in the fairways or the rough. Layout is tight with some relatively long forced carries on the back nine. Pro shop staff and starter were super. Snack bar appears to be upbeat but after 10 minutes of no one in sight, I went to the office and asked if the snack bar was open. five minutes after an affirmative answer with no serving staff showing up I walked out. Overall course was excellent and I will try to get back in spite of the long drive from Baltimore.

This course may be the best-kept secret in Maryland. Every time I play here I seem to have the course to myself. No doubt today's heat kept a lot of people indoors but this is just a fantastic track that doesn't get much play. A few of the greens had some dead spots but mostly the conditions were very good. They had a lot of trees down from the recent storm but they didn't affect play at all.

Swan Point is a nice layout with some picturesque holes overlooking and running beside the waterways. It is very tight, though, so hitting the fairways is a must or you'll be going through a lot of sleeves of balls. The tees and fairways are in good shape as well as the bunkers; and the greens, for the most part, are as well. We saw a couple which had some rough spots in them, but it wasn't too terrible. Unfortunately, though, we waited on every hole and every shot for the threesome in front of us. They were spraying it all over the place and on Swan Point that's nothing but trouble--you're either in the water, trees, out of bounds, or other hazards with slitering creatures. It's a fun layout, but take your patience, plenty of golf balls, and enjoy the scenery. On a holiday, it was only $49 with the Tee Time Book.

It was a 96 degree day, and we had an afternoon tee time on Memorial Day. We thought most people would be at the beach, but we ended up having a 5 hour round. There were no marshalls and extremely slow play, waiting on every hole. I've played the course a lot and have seen it in much better shape--it had lots of dead areas in the fairways and the greens were burned around the edges in some cases. It was a tough day in that heat and the slow play.

Swan Point is a bit of a drive - one which has gotten worse with increasing development/congestion in Waldorf and LaPlata - but continues to be worth the hassle. Thanks to the Bermuda grass fairways the course has survived the tough summer in good shape. Greens are in great condition, too - I imagine the course just isn't getting that much play. We played on a Saturday afternoon and saw very few other golfers. Being right up by the Potomac, the course has a tendency to be a little soggy, but the views (#6) and marsh-side holes (#11-13) more than make up for it. That and the par-5 4th hole with its island green give me the feeling I'm in Myrtle.

Swan Point has the makings of a fantastic course, but it wasn't on this day. The fairways were a bit of a mess, and we often found the rough to be much more pleasant to hit out of because of its consistency (scramble) the greens however were in great shape and true. The staff was very friendly, and the facilities/club house were top notch, although the pro shop didn't have much to offer, we won $75 and really couldn't find much more then golf balls to buy. If I lived closer (Washington DC) I would probably give it another shot but its a bit far out there...

This course sits on an absolutely beautiful piece of property that makes you feel like you are on a summer vacation at the beach. Swan Point is in great shape and definitely ready for the thick of the golf season. It is a must play if you are near or far...

Was informed that Swan Point was a nice course. It probably is, but we probably made our trek a bit too early in the season. The greens weren't completely recovered from the winter and the bermuda grass in the fairways was still quite dormant (brown) all for full, in-season price. There was plenty of standing water in the rough and casual water and soft fairway conditions due to heavy rains the night before.

Course is charging way too much for the present condition ($87). At one time it was the premier course in Southern MD however, appears to have fallen off quite a bit. Rough and fringe around the greens leaves quite a bit for improvement. Hopefully conditions will improve.
