Potomac Ridge has really gone done hill, and its a shame. I was very disappointed in Potomac Ridge during my last visit. Customer service was absolutely horrible, to the point I was told directly, "You are not the customer". It started with check-in where apparently my online reservation didn't come through with the discounted price of $27. I booked it at 10:30 am because that was almost half off the price at 10:00 a.m. and was worth the lower price. A friend was heading home that day and could have used that extra half hour, but for almost $50 discount, was worth waiting. Apparently it did not go through the system and we were charged $42. Was berated by the cashier, and basically was told I was lying and they wouldn't honor the discount. I don't know what was going on as I've played several tournaments there and make it a point to golf there a few times a year because the staff has always been pleasant and have always had a good time.
The poor service continued with the food service, where the counter girl was more intrigued with her smartphone and playing a game, than serving customers. She had difficulty ringing up the total, so evident that she was poorly trained.
The course itself was in serious disrepair. The tee boxes were in poor shape, and hadn't been moved in awhile as it was mostly dirt and divots. Some fairways were in good shape, others in very poor shape. I believe on the fourth hole of the Ridge, the cup was caved in one side. I don't know what happened, and can honestly say I've never seen that before. Looked like a goose had taken a few bites out of the edge or someone took a putter and pulled out a ball, taking out part of the cup.
The poor customer service continued with the grounds crew staying one hole AHEAD of us for several holes, watering the greens. The first hole they didn't bother turning off the hose, and told us to go ahead and hit. The second hole, apparently they thought better and turned off the hose. I would have preferred they waited, as there was nobody behind us.
There was no starter on the course, and we could have just drove all over the place playing continuously. Finally, I had earlier requested membership material, which the automatic reply was we will be in contact with you soon. I haven't heard from them, yet, and after my last experience it doesn't matter as I certainly will not be spending my money at Potomac Ridge in the future. Also, there was no one to complain to as management was not there (on a Saturday), and did not show up by the end of our game--so that explains why the course is in such disrepair and customer service was so poor.
There are many good courses in the area, no need to waste your money until they fix the course and improve their customer service.
