Okay...first the good news. Actually, this is a really nice layout with a nice blend of easy and challenging holes (environmental, hazards, and carries)...thus, the 2 stars for layout. And, there was no one there today, so we saw no one and played in just under 4 hours. The bad news...it pains me to write this part, as I know they have undergone significant management changes and still trying to do renovations. However, the course is in really rough shape. Forget they recently aerated all greens and it looks like the back 9 fairways--but the bunkers are just awful. They need to do a complete bunker renovation project, as they have grass growing in 80% of them, there is no sand, and they haven't been raked in what looks like weeks, maybe even months. The pro shop told us to play them as GUR. On the back nine, the fairways were very thin and, as stated, recently aerated. Clearly, no effort has been made to remove leaves, branches, and pine needles from the course as some of the cart paths were hard to find due to being covered over. I know it was windy yesterday (Friday), but this was more build up than just one day. For $40, it was okay but really reminds me of courses I've seen at camp sites and RV parks you play for $15, and this course design is much, much better than that. Sorry to see. I would love to continue to patronize River House, but they need to put some TLC and money into getting this course back into shape. I'll try it again next year.
