Always a treat, Queenstown The River is a premier course. After five days of constant rain, the course was open for play with cart path only, of course. They were trying to cut some of the rough, as it was extremely deep. Additionally, they were busy raking bunkers. I love the layout of this course, and it was in excellent shape even with the wet conditions. The greens were fantastic...a little damp when we first started and, therefore, slower; but, as the sun came out, they dried and became increasingly faster. Very nice!! Tee boxes and bunkers in good shape. And, the fairways were completely green and lush (where many area courses have suffered some loss of grass due to an extremely hot and dry August and early September). The weather didn't seem to negatively impact The River. The only reason I gave it four stars vs. five was due to the wet and spongy conditions. With the mowing, some of the fairway edges were muddy where the tractor weight did a little damage. The rough was extremely long and punishing--almost like hitting out of hay. And, finally, the staff were extremely nice and helpful...but, they always are. We had a coupon for a great rate, but this course is worth the $89 rack rate. What a treat!!

Always a good time at Queenstown Harbor. The River can be a tough course, especially when the wind kicks up, which is what happened this day. The fairways were pristine, but it was a little wet that day from previous days of rain. Greens were in really good shape as well, save for a few unfixed ball marks, but that seems to be typical of all courses nowadays. People in the pro shop are always nice, and the marshals keep pace of play up. A nice little snack stand at the turn prevent you from having to go to the full service in the clubhouse, making the turn quicker.

I strongly suggest getting the Raspberry Trail Card! Play 3 courses on the trail, get a fourth round at one of the three courses you played free! I played Blue Mash, Penn National, and Queenstown, so now I can play a round at Queenstown for free! I'll definitely be taking advantage soon.

Running a special...8+ players 50% off rack rate (and rack rate on a Tuesday is $89), so basically a 2-for-1 deal. We had two foursomes. The bag drop guys were great--welcoming, flexible, and worked with me as I got everyone checked in and settled. The course is in excellent shape from tee to green. The rough was a tad long--brutal, so stay out of it. I like this course...I like the layout, the views, and the variety of challenge and easy. With some of the environmental, you have to think your way around, but it's not overly strategic. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is the ranger shadowed our 1st foursome for several holes and eventually asked them to pick up the pace. I found this out when we went to dinner...there was no one in front of them to "stay up with," and we finished in less than 4.5 hrs. It appears the threesome behind us (2nd foursome in the group) complained, but I don't know why. Did they want us to finish in 3.5 hours? We were not slow...the ranger should have settled down the threesome and look at the clock to determine pace. I don't like slow rounds either and we always keep a good pace. Just didn't like the way it was handled.

The River Course at Queenstown is a beautiful, scenic layout with views of the river, woodlands, and wetlands. There are a variety of holes--some needing careful placement and others pretty straight forward. The greens were in excellent condition, as were bunkers and tee boxes. The fairways, though, had been recently punched and still had the holes throughout the course. Additionally, I was a bit surprised by the grass in the fairway--not the consistent, carpet-like grass I remember, but rather a mixture of grasses (fine and coarse) and some crabgrass in spots as well. The Tee Time Book has a Foursome special of $240 M-Th so $60/person was a good deal for this course. The staff at Queenstown is always nice and welcoming from the bag drop to the pro shop staff to the starter and cart girl. We had a great day--started out with a little sprinkle of rain, but cleared up by #3 and the sun appeared around #7 for the remainder of the day. The River is the better of the two courses and worth a trip across the Bay Bridge during the week. Afterwards, though, make a stop at Fisherman's Inn Crab Deck (eat on the deck not in the main restaurant) or at Harris' Crab House...great seafood and reasonably priced.

The Course was in amazing condition, being it was aerate several days before our round. Because of the Aerated greens, the course reduced the course rate which is $119 by 20%.

Course: It was Cart Path Only during our Round, by its still a beautiful course to play.

Pro Shop and Staff: Queenstown Harbor Staff continues to be ranked by me as the Best Golf Course staff in the area. Everyone at the course will make your round an enjoyable round.

Food Services: Prior to you making the turn, you could call in an order or walk in and see what they have on the Grill.

Cons: The round was slow, because of the Group in front of our group. At one point they were 3 holes behind the group in front of them, but as we made the turn we jumped in front of them and it was easy sailing on the Back Nine.

Greens were hard to hold but lightning quick. Lots of unrepaired ballmarks. Tees,
fairways, traps all excellent. Beatiful golf course. We got charged an extra $9 per man because we only had 11 instead of 12. (cmon man)

Twelve of us played today and the course was in pretty good shape. They had aerated the greens Monday-Tuesday, so newly punched with lots of sand...thus the average ratings. The tee boxes and bunkers were in excellent shape, and the fairways were in good shape with the exception of unrepaired divots--lots of them. We put mix in ours and 4-5 more each shot. It's really a shame for such a nice course. Some fairways were also punched leading up to the green, but otherwise most of the course in good shape. The rough is long and tough, so stay in the fairway. Staff always pleasant.

I tend to make a trip several trips to the Eastern Shore to play several rounds at some outstanding courses. Queenstown has always been a favorite for years.

Course Review: Simply put the River Course was outstanding. Fairways were very green and the greens super fast. Seeing soft white sandy bunkers will make anyone concerned, but its worth it.

Staff: Everyone at Queenstown is very helpful and make you feel like you are a member. They will go out of their way to help you enjoy your round.

Food & Drinks: Each Course has its own Beverage Cart Service, with all the things one will require. They did take away the Food trailer, when you are making the turn, but if you visit the Pro Shop near the carts, they have setup a grilling area for hot dogs and burgers.

Overall: If you want to play a well kept course, try Queenstown.

It rained pretty hard the night before, though I expected the course to drain a bit better to avoid the cart path only rule they had. I was also very disappointed that the bunkers were not raked at all! The fairways, tee boxes, and greens were perfect! But for a course with a ton of sand at a $90/round clip, I'd expect better bunker upkeep; and we didn't see grounds crew all round. Chicken salad sandwich tasted great, however was really skimpy. Good complement of chips and awesome cookie though. Beside the poor sand traps, a-hole front counter guy (who's always been that way), and teaspoon full of chicken salad on a rather large bun, The River is a beautiful course that will for sure provide you with a great challenge!

First of all today it was a Thursday first week of March and the rate was $75. This course has never been worth the price of green fees at anytime of the year. I guess they get people there for two reasons #1 it is close to annapolis and people there must like to overpay for golf and Bay Hills sucks so bad that the rest of the golfers there don't see it as an option. The course conditions were not good at all, there was no drinking water on the course, no cart girl, and the carts don't have GPS. So why is the rate $75 weekday in the winter? If you are coming from Baltimore don't waste your money here, you are only 20-40 minutes away from plenty of better options. Plus keep in mind that if your not a good golfer this course with the wind will rip you apart. My suggestion is to just suck it up and drive down to Baywood, Heritage Shores, or Hunter's Oak and save your money and sanity.

I remember a few years ago when this course was $130 and it was one of the most well kept in the state and a real treat to play. Called up Sunday at 10am to see if we could get a tee time, I was expecting to hear no but they said come on out and the rate was $89. When we got there they only charged $72 a man for a 12:30 tee time. The course was not in bad shape but nothing like it was a few years ago. The carts are in very bad shape even had the guys they paired us up with cart cut out after 3 holes. No GPS like most nice courses on the shore, gave us a useless yardage book. There are some worn spots and you can tell if they don't do something quick this will be a dog track by late 2012 and gone for sure by 2013. So play it now at this discounted rate but beware in 2012.

Rough is to be avoided more than normal. It can be thick, muddy, or bare and hard as a rock. Was a deal w/ the Sunday/Tuesday special. At full fare would be a little steep.

Course is in great condition considering the recent weather trend. Lush grass throughout the course. Traps have great sand and it appears to be well cared for. Cost is a little prohibitive most of the time ($89 for weekdays), but they had a $63 special today which brought the cost more in line with the condition of the course. Even at $63, I can't afford to play here every day, but It is enjoyable every once in a while.

This is the best course I have played in the state of Maryland period. The staff was very friendly. The course condition was as good as it gets from my experience and the golf course a great layout. I play quite a few in Western Maryland that think they are of this quality, but don't measure up. Some of the views alone make this course worth the trip, but there is plenty to like.

Extremely difficult course for this early in the season for me. The course has recently been aerated so they offer a discounted rate. If you have never played this course, it is a must play! The most beautiful course in Maryland, and very challenging.

Course is in fantastic shape with a very challenging layout. Majority of the longer holes force you to carry 150+ yards off the tee, and the approach is not much easier. Plus, greens were very fast until the sun started going down - did not make for an easy Front 9. My only complaint would be that there was no cart girl, and i didn't see a single Ranger on the course to make sure people were keeping pace. All-in-all, phenomenal water views and great conditions make this course a must play!

It was about $90 to play of Saturday around noon. Expensive but worth it. The course was beautiful no two holes the same. I was very happy with the layout. The weather was perfect and even though traffic made us late the starter was very nice and helpful. We got out by ourselves. One helpful hint, buy a yardage book, there are a ton of blind shots.

Recently played the River Course at Queenstown. It took us 5 hours to complete our round because of slow play. Can you imagine paying $119.00 for a weekend round and on every shot you need to wait for 10 - 15 minutes before you can hit? On the turn we did talk to the group in front of us and they said, it seemed the pace of play died when they got to the Par 5 5th. On the back we did see a Marhsal talking to 2 groups in front of us, but that was near the Par 4 15th. From what we were told, one of the groups was searching for golf balls all day, which slowed everyone down. Not sure I want to spend that kind of money if play is going to take forever.

While the greens were firm and rolling true, I didn't see much else to justify the increase in green fees. I only saw one group on the course using the "complimentary" forecaddie service. Other than the greens, it seemed like the same experience as before the massive fee increase.

Wow! What a course! I just wish I played it better. The greens have been replanted, dense and true. The layout is difficult but fair. The caddies are an extra bonus but I didn't live up to their expectations.
