We made our annual trek out to Luray to play Caverns country Club. We went on a 3 day package, which included hotel, unlimited golf, 2 breakfast coupons and 2 diner coupons for $279. the golf course is in great shape. Tee boxes, bunkers and fairways were good. Greens were in perfect shape and very fast. The greens are very hard to read as they are very large with lots of undulations. Try to stay below the flags with your approach shots or even hit them short and let them bounce to green. Above the hole is a 3 putt waiting to happen.
The course itself is the typical mountain course with great views (take a camera), lots of elevation changes and a few blind shots. Not many level lies in the fairway. We pretty much had the course to ourselves as there was a threat of rain all 3 days. The sun did come out on Monday so we played 36 holes. Course was a little wet but you could drive to your ball on all but the 1st hole.
Staff is very friendly and accommodating. This course is a must play and well worth the drive. The package deal is the way to go but only cost $50.00 on weekends. If you go out for dinner, try Dan's Steakhouse about 2-3 miles away. It is excellent.
We love this course and can't wait to go back.

Haven't played this course in 6-7 years, but we made a day trip. First, this course has some of the most amazing views of any course I've ever played! The views of the mountains are absolutely gorgeous, and actually can be distracting (in a good way)! The first hole is unique in that it has a rock formation which has an opening down into the caverns below...you get a free drop (golf course rule). Lots of elevation changes, uneven lies, doglegs, and some blind shots. The greens are undulated--not a flat lie anywhere to be had, but they run pure. (I only had 12 putts on the front.) This course has changed management and they are working on it. You will see some inconsistencies in the fairway grasses--some brown grass mixed with Bermuda (I think) and crabgrass. The rough was thick and long, again with a mixture of grasses and weeds. The bunkers were either really thick and fluffy, or hard pan, but you're able to get out of both if you understand what you need to do for the sand shot. For $29 w/cart on a Saturday morning, who cares! The course is a nice test with challenging greens and breathtaking views. It's about 2.5 hours from Baltimore. As they continue to work on the course, I'm hopeful they get it back into the shape it was in about a decade ago.
