We played the Yorktown course on a Sunday and bought a 12:50 pm tee time from GolfNow. I had previously played here in April and October 2011. In general I found the course was greener and the greens in better condition in the fall versus the spring. We were able to tee of a bit early with one twosome in front of us but eventually caught up to the morning crowd on the 12th hole. The round took 4 hours and 15 minutes - not bad for a Sunday - I am glad we didn't tee off any earlier though.
The Yorktown has a ton of traps and bunkers but is a fair test for high handicappers using the front tees or low handicappers using the back tees. There is a group of holes backing onto water (14, 16 and 17) which are quite picturesque. The greens vary in size and some have some wicked undulations. In general I like the course layout, and enjoyed all three rounds I have played here.
The staff were great and the snack bar located off the pro shop is conveniently located for a coffee before the round or a mid-round burger on the way to the 10th tee. There is a driving range beside the pro shop. The rack rate is $79 but luckily there are cheaper options including GolfNow, Virginia Golf.com, and discounts for Williamsburg visitors staying at local timeshares.
