First time playing Mattaponi Springs and I came away very impressed.Conditions were all but perfect. Staff was courteous and helpful.Very nice practice area and clubhouse.GPS tracking in all carts. The golf course is flat out difficult, mostly tree lined with some blind shots. The greens are very undulated,it's a golf course you need to play a couple times to know your way around. I will definitely return

This course is always in great shape. Don't know how they keep it in such good condition all the time. The fairways were like walking on carpet, they were thick and lush. The rough is extremely tough--the ball sinks down to the roots and you can have difficulty finding it, not to mention getting it back in play. Course is tough with some extremely challenging holes with severe doglegs, elevation changes, carries, and blind shots. It plays longer than the GPS states so take an extra club on your approach shot. On a Sunday morning, we seemed to have the course all to ourselves--never saw anyone in front or behind us. Unbelievably quiet...hear the wind rustling in the trees, birds chirping, and at times completely silent. Great staff and nice facilities. I never play this course well, but can't complain about the course conditions--they are excellent.

Playing for the 2nd time(didnt remember much about course),great VSGA rate...typical winter conditions, overall tee boxes and fairways in great shape, greens a little slow but rolled smooth.Proshop at check in says there were balls on the range???..found none? This course definitely takes a couple of times playing it to get used to blind hazards and undulating greens. It a great rate during offseason but pricey during peak times.Nothing spectacular to pay those rates on a regular basis!....30 mins from Richmond!..Proshop staff was nice

Mattaponi Springs was in exceptional shape. The fairways were green and lush, and felt like carpet. The tee boxes were also in excellent shape. The greens were rolling true and fast, even though some of them had some dark spots. (Was told they had contracted a fungus, but the treatments were working.) The rough, although cut, was really tough. You're better off just taking your medicine and chipping out to the fairway. This course has some challenging holes, so use the yardage card and the GPS they provide and make good choices on club selection. They run specials and August is Seniors' month with $42 during the week; however, the normal rate is $69 during the week and $89 on the weekend. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and we played with some members who clearly appreciate their course and enjoyed sharing their knowledge and experiences with others.

We usually play Mattaponi Springs in March on our way back from somewhere south. This time it was a pleasure to play this fine course when it was green and when the greens were less than 12 on the stimpmeter. This is a must play for the Northern Virginia Golfer-it's about 90 minutes from Arlington.

I have played a couple hundred courses and these were some of the best greens I have ever played on. The course is very hard if you have never played. You must stay on the fairway here there is not much room for error. Sticking it on the green on about 10 holes is a must otherwise your ball is down a hill somewhere. Anyway this is my new favorite place in VA.

One of the best conditioned courses I have played this winter. The greens are in great shape and tough, many times 2 or 3 tiers. The layout is challenging as well, this course is definitely worth the drive.
