Birdwood is a nice layout-not overly difficult. Although fairway grass was dormant, the fairways were in good shape (no bare spots). As UVA's home couse, it is typically in great shape. The greens were wicked fast! This late in the season, I was surprised at how fast, so be careful--a 3 or 4 putt is not unusual! The staff is always nice and accommodating. Nice course to play while in the Charlottesville area. If I had a suggestion, it would be to pair up some of the twosomes--it helps pace of play.

Birdwood is a nice course in Charlottesville, Virginia in the rolling hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The course was in real good shape when we played, the rain really had every thing very green and the ruff was grown to around 5-6 inches which made the course challenging. This is UVA's home course so all of their carts are equipped with their logo which is dissapointing as some might feel a little queer riding in a cart that sports that teams symbol on it. $80 dollars is a little pricy for this course hitting the 3:30 twighlight rate of $51 is the only way to go here. Good views of the mountains, lots of elavation change, challenging ruff, couple of island greens make this course lay out exceptional and challenging.

Very nice layout at this Charlottesville course. Actually is the home course of the Wahoos, but it plays like it is home to a school with a much more prestigious athletic program. Water comes into play on a few holes and driving accuracy is key to score well. Played the twilight and had no problem finishing in about 4 hours. Great mountain views and an overall peaceful ambiance. Buffalo Wild Wings is about a mile from the course for your post-round wings and beers. Will return to break 90...
