Everyone is great here and you can't beat the location, but it is just a halfway decent muni. Oh -- and I wish people would repair their ball marks.

SHOCK ALERT: The Blue Course is in Amazing Shape.

Cost: Weekday Rates are $27.00 18 Hole Blue Course Additional $15.00 Riding Cart

Greens: I was so surprised on how fast and well maintained the greens are. With all the rounds this course endures, its tough to keep this up during the entire season

Fairways: The New Superintendent has reshaped the fairways and cut back on the rough. This will enable players of all caliber to enjoy a round of golf without searching or hacking his/her way out of the thick rough. It also gives a player a different angle of attack into the greens

Pro Shop: Has everything a Golfer will need for a Round of Golf

Course Staff: Starters and Marshals: Very nice people and will help you with all your needs

Food Services: Great Burgers... Several years ago, East Potomac Grill received a Food critiques award for price and taste for its burgers... They continue to meet or exceed those goals with other things on the menu.

Driving Range: Full Range with 2 decks

Teaching Facility: They have several teaching professionals on hand to help you in your game

I am not from the DC area and did not know what to expect from this course. This is one of the easier courses I have played at; mostly wide fairways and very flat greens. The fairways were in pretty good condition, but many of the greens were covered with divots, especially on hole 4. The greens were also very slow, but it did rain in the early morning. The 9th hole was very distracting; the green is right by the putting green and pro shop and it was very loud while putting. Actually, the hole course was very loud from all of the planes taking off and landing at the nearby Reagan Airport. The double decker driving range was pretty cool and you get 50 balls for $7. I paid $47 for 18 and a cart, which I think was way too much for the quality of the course. Apparently on the weekdays you can play nine holes for only $10 (a great deal and worth the cost). Overall, the course was very busy and not in great condition. i think this would be a great weekday course, but somewhere I would avoid on the weekends.

24 golfers got together at East Potomac (EP) to host our first Indonesian Golf Tournament on the 9 Hole White Course. The Blue had a larger 18 hole tournament, which started at 9 am. When we checked in, they sold us a 9 Hole White course ticket at $16.00 per and a push cart, which was $3.00 per, for a grand total of $19.00. When we got to the Starter location, they did not have any push carts available. When we got to the 1st tee, a representative from EP was at the tee box, greeting our group. He was very nice and helpful to our group, he also brought several push carts out to our group when it was made available, since some of our players had Handicap issues. We did talk to the GM, but he acted like we were bothering him, because he said his people in the Prop shop would not sell us a push cart since the Blue Course tournament took them all. Well Mr GM, we showed you the tickets and all you could say was its not our fault.

Customer Service: VERY POOR - I'm writing a letter to the Park Service about this GM
Course: POOR - Half the Fairways were under water.

Rock Creek Golf Course Being Mismanaged

I had the misfortune of going to Rock Creek Golf Course this weekend. I've been golfing there for the past ten years, but was dismayed by the extremely poor condition of the course, and the bad management of the staff. Here's a quick rundown of my golfing experience.

First off, the starter failed to honor the t-time of our group and we weren't able to start playing until 35 minutes later this was the most minor problem encountered. The worst problem was the condition of the course, there are huge patches in every single fairway where there is no grass growing at all. Several fairways are showing signs of erosion with large gullies forming in the mud. In the areas surrounding the green there are also lots of barren spots between large clumps of grass. Finally the greens themselves were very uneven.

But that wasn't the only problem. After being on the course for two hours and having played only five holes, we called the pro shop to report that the pace of play was extremely slow and asked that they send a marshal around to urge players to pick up the pace - they refused and said the marshal was busy doing something else. The result is that a round that normally lasts two hours fifteen minutes on the front nine, lasted three hours and fifteen minutes.

I can only conclude this is a result of failing to properly marshal the course and greedy management more intent on pushing too many players out onto the course too quickly just to gain a few more dollars - and I'm assuming they didn't honor our t-time because they had allowed players on the course without t-times, again just to gain a few more bucks at the expense of everyone else's enjoyment.

Lastly, it was a hot day Saturday and the management had provided no water on the course. It's a real shame that an enjoyable course near my home has become such a mess. It needs new management that knows how to properly care for the golf course, and that treats the people who come to play with some basic courtesy.

The good news is that the greens at East Potomac have never been better-a little slow, but otherwise in great shape. I had expected that the fairways might be in a little better condition, but with all the rain maybe they've just been under water too much! You can't beat $16 walking on a weekday, and, once we remembered how to play golf, the back nine was enough to bring us back again...to a round of golf that is! My partner remarked that once again we had played in every month in 2008...
