Blizzard of 2010 Eliminates Winter Golf for the Mideast

With two monstrous snow storms this winter, golf has been few and far between for the winter golfer. Snow totals throughout the northeast range from a foot in southern Virginia to over 30 inches in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware. Experts estimate that the snow will not melt for at least three weeks, which means golfers will not see green on the links until at least March.

Tiger Woods made headlines today for the first time since his sex scandal broke over Thanksgiving. This time it wasn't for the wrong reasons. In the 2nd annual Fab 40 magazine by Forbes, Tiger earned more money from endorsements then any other athlete in the world.

Even though Phil Mickelson respectfully left his Ping Eye-2 out of his bag for this weekend's Northern Trust Open at storied Riviera Country Club, the ongoing "Groove Controversy" just won't seem to go away. Rather than keep the focus on individual players and subject them to media ridicule (many pros using the Ping Eye-2 have recently been scrutinized and labeled as cheaters), PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem took the lead and commented about the 2010 Rule Change on this week.

John Daly Not Done With Golf

John Daly stated via Twitter that he is not retiring, even though he told the Golf Channel on Friday that "I'm done."

Daly said that financial difficulties are impairing his ability to focus on his golf game, leading to the frustration that caused him to suggest he was retiring.

After John Daly missed yet another cut, this time at the Farmers Insurance Open, he apparently told the media that he is "done" with golf:

"I'm done," Daly said, following rounds of 79-71. "I can't compete. I can't play like I use too. I can't keep taking spots from guys out here playing this bad. It's not worth it."

"I'm tired of embarrassing myself in front of (my fans). I can't do it anymore."

There is speculation that this interview was meant to stir up some press for John Daly's new reality show premiering in the next couple of months.

With Tiger out of the PGA Tour spotlight (at least for now), all eyes are on Phil Mickelson to fill the void. Lefty has always enjoyed a share of the spotlight, but Woods' indefinite absence opens the door for him to be "the man" and claim the #1 ranking for the first time. The expectations are evident and along with that comes some extra attention.

16 year old to play in HP Byron Nelson Championship

16 year old and Reigning U.S. Junior Amateur Champion, Jordan Spieth will be playing in HP Byron Nelson Championship of the PGA Tour on an amateur exemption.

Spieth is currently a junior at the Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas and is the number 1 ranked player in the Polo Golf Rankings. He finished second in the Junior PGA Championship and was named the Rolex Junior Player of the year.

Author Benoit Denizet-Lewis has cited an unnamed source on his personal blog that Tiger Woods is in a sex rehabilitation center in Mississippi. Benoit Denizet-Lewis, a recovering sex addict, has written a book titled "America Anonymous: Eight Addicts in Search of a Life."

Denizet-Lewis says he spent some time at Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services in Hattiesburg, Mississppi a few years ago while writing his book and that is where he says Woods is receiving treatment.

Earlier this month, EA Sports announced that they will honor their decade-plus long relationship with Tiger Woods and keep him as the feature name & face of their PGA Tour video games. The President of EA Sports, Peter Moore, indicated that Tiger's impact on the game outweighs his recent "off the course" issues, a sentiment not very well supported by the majority of Woods' sponsors who recently reduced his role in their advertising campaigns, if not in their entirety.

This past year, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 was voted the "Nintendo Wii Best Sports Game of 2009" by IGN Entertainment, a global leader in game technology. Currently, EA Sports is beta testing their newest golf masterpiece, Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online. . .
