With the field of 65 teams selected for the 2010 NCAA Mens Basketball Championship Tournament, the Madness of March is officially upon us . . . and what an incredible time of year it is. The weather is getting warmer, the birds are chirping and with an additional hour of sunlight, there is extra incentive to cut out of work early and hit the links.

Tiger Receives Phone Calls From Obama

While no one could find Tiger, presidents from the past and present didn’t have the same problem. Golf Digest reported that Tiger received phone calls offering support from both President Obama and Bill Clinton. I find it shocking, but not surprising that President Clinton was able to offer martial advice to Tiger.

It seems like every single news source picked up Tiger's "press conference" last week. Now, every channel I turn to Tiger, Tiger and more Tiger. I love how everyone wants to analyze whether he truly meant what he said or didn't - WHO CARES - Tiger doesn't owe me an apology I just want to see him back in the news for all of the right reasons - winning championships. Tiger gave little indication of when he plans to come back, but it will be one long golf season if he is a no show on the PGA tour this year.

Blizzard of 2010 Eliminates Winter Golf for the Mideast

With two monstrous snow storms this winter, golf has been few and far between for the winter golfer. Snow totals throughout the northeast range from a foot in southern Virginia to over 30 inches in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware. Experts estimate that the snow will not melt for at least three weeks, which means golfers will not see green on the links until at least March.

Tiger Woods made headlines today for the first time since his sex scandal broke over Thanksgiving. This time it wasn't for the wrong reasons. In the 2nd annual Fab 40 magazine by Forbes, Tiger earned more money from endorsements then any other athlete in the world.

Even though Phil Mickelson respectfully left his Ping Eye-2 out of his bag for this weekend's Northern Trust Open at storied Riviera Country Club, the ongoing "Groove Controversy" just won't seem to go away. Rather than keep the focus on individual players and subject them to media ridicule (many pros using the Ping Eye-2 have recently been scrutinized and labeled as cheaters), PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem took the lead and commented about the 2010 Rule Change on this week.

With Tiger out of the PGA Tour spotlight (at least for now), all eyes are on Phil Mickelson to fill the void. Lefty has always enjoyed a share of the spotlight, but Woods' indefinite absence opens the door for him to be "the man" and claim the #1 ranking for the first time. The expectations are evident and along with that comes some extra attention.

Earlier this month, EA Sports announced that they will honor their decade-plus long relationship with Tiger Woods and keep him as the feature name & face of their PGA Tour video games. The President of EA Sports, Peter Moore, indicated that Tiger's impact on the game outweighs his recent "off the course" issues, a sentiment not very well supported by the majority of Woods' sponsors who recently reduced his role in their advertising campaigns, if not in their entirety.

This past year, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 was voted the "Nintendo Wii Best Sports Game of 2009" by IGN Entertainment, a global leader in game technology. Currently, EA Sports is beta testing their newest golf masterpiece, Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online. . .

2010 PGA Tour season set to begin, minus 1 event

The stage is set for the 2010 PGA Tour to kick off next week with the SBS Championship at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii (Jan. 7-10). We have all been kept well informed of the loss of Tiger Woods (for an undetermined amount of time), but overlooked in the Tiger media storm is the fact that the Tour will also be down 1 tournament and nearly $4 Million in total prize money.
