Puma to Buy Cobra Golf

Acushnet Compnay, the parent company of Titleist, FootJoy, and Cobra has announced that it has reached an agreement sell of its Cobra brand to Puma. The deal includes the Cobra Brand, related inventory, intellectual property and endorsement contracts. Acushnet will keep control of the Titleist and FootJoy and will continue to provide services for Cobra for a period of time to make the transaction seamless.

"With the sale of Cobra, we have the opportunity to devote all of our resources to the global growth of our industry-leading Titleist and FootJoy brands," said Wally Uihlein, Chairman and CEO of Acushnet Company.

The PGA Tour to Make a Stop In Asia

The CIMB Asia Pacific Classic, Malaysia, will be the first PGA Tour sanctioned event in Asia. The tournament will be played in late October at the MINES Resort & Golf Club.

The Tournament will feature the top 25 available players in the FedEx Cup standings and the top 10 available Asian players. The field will be rounded out with five sponsor exemptions.

John Daly In His Boxers?

John Daly has signed on with a new internet company to endorse underwear. Slix, a four month old internet company has signed John Daly to endorse its line of Slix Closer Boxer Briefs. Luckily for everyone, he'll still be wearing the crazy pants on top. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Key Points of Tiger Woods Press Conference

Tiger Woods spoke publicly today for the first time since his November 27th car crash. The statement last 14 minutes and took place in the clubhouse at TPC Sawgrass. Here are some of the key points he made:

"I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior I engaged in." "My wife Elin and I have started the process of discussing the damage caused by my behavior. As Elin pointed out to me, my real apology to her will not come in the form of words; it will come from my behavior over time."

"I have made you question who I am and how I could have done the things I did. I am embarrassed that I have put you in this position. For all that I have done, I am so sorry."

When is Tiger coming back?

Another deadline passes with no sign of Tiger. Friday the deadline for the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship passed without Tiger's name on the billet. The WGC Match Play Championship will start Wednesday with Steve Stricker the world's #3 ranked golfer as the #1 seed, as Phil Mickelson will also miss the tournament due to personal reasons.

The next tournament on schedule is the Waste Management Phoenix Open, (really, who would want to play in anything dealing with waste) which Tiger has not played in years. Maybe we will see him the week after at the WGC-CA Championship at Doral where he has had great success winning the tournament 3 times.

At this point I am just hoping we see him again this season!

Tiger Woods & Phil Mickelson Will Miss The WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship

Contrary to the numerous reports over the last couple of weeks, Tiger Woods will not play in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship next week. The deadline to enter the tournament was 5pm this past Friday.

Englishman, Ross McGowan, the 66th ranked golfer, will now get his shot to play in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship with Tiger and Phil both not entering. Tiger is missing the tournament due to personal reasons while Phil is taking a family vacation.

Pebble Beach Pro-Am: Daly & Romo quite the team

It was a little more than 2 weeks ago when John Daly surprised the golf community with an abrupt & unfiltered announcement that he was done with the game. JD was quick to retract the statement, pointing to overwhelming mental, physical and financial frustrations that have affected his play on Tour. It seems that the week break from PGA play coupled with the relaxed atmosphere of a Pro-Am have helped Daly's golf game.

Rory Mcilroy Will Play Next Week in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Open Championship

According to the Daily Express, 20 year old, Rory Mcilroy will play in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Open Championship next week in Arizona. Mcilroy, the number seventh ranked golfer the world, had a back scan on Monday that reveled stretched ligaments.

Mcilroys agent, Chubby Chandler, says it came from 10 days of practice last month to get ready for the season, then playing two tournaments in three weeks.

McIlroy was third at Abu Dhabi and tied for sixth last week in Dubai.

Tiger Woods made headlines today for the first time since his sex scandal broke over Thanksgiving. This time it wasn't for the wrong reasons. In the 2nd annual Fab 40 magazine by Forbes, Tiger earned more money from endorsements then any other athlete in the world.

Even though Phil Mickelson respectfully left his Ping Eye-2 out of his bag for this weekend's Northern Trust Open at storied Riviera Country Club, the ongoing "Groove Controversy" just won't seem to go away. Rather than keep the focus on individual players and subject them to media ridicule (many pros using the Ping Eye-2 have recently been scrutinized and labeled as cheaters), PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem took the lead and commented about the 2010 Rule Change on this week.
