After much speculation about what will be reveled in Hank Haney’s new book about Tiger Woods, Tiger finally spoke out. As expected, Tiger was not happy to hear that his so called friend and trusted confidant is publishing a book about his life. Since the news about the book came out a few weeks ago all has been quiet from Tiger’s camp. Yesterday, Tiger spoke pretty openly about the book with ESPN’s Bob Harig.
“I think it’s unprofessional and very disappointing,” Woods [said], “especially because it’s someone I worked with and trusted as a friend.”
“There have been other one-sided books about me, and I think people understand that this book is about money. I’m not going to waste my time reading it … I just think this book is very self-serving.”
As Tiger’s swing coach for six years, Hank Haney knows a bit about Tiger’s deep dark secrets. Hank was with Tiger while he was at the top of his game both personally and professionally. Haney, one of the top golf instructors in the world, propelled Tiger to win six major championships and four Player of the Year honors.
When Haney was interviewed last month by The Associated Press he said he spent about 110 days a year with Woods, and as many as 30 days a year at his home.
“I was a witness to greatness,” Haney said, ”And I get asked the question all the time about Tiger. I wanted to talk about it and I wanted to share it with people. That’s the bottom line. I’m not sure I understand the unprofessionalism part. He hasn’t read the book. There’s a lot of positives in there. I think he’s the greatest golfer who ever lived.
“I was just in a position to observe greatness and anyone who observes greatness likes to share it. I feel like I wrote a book that was fair and honest. It’s golf history.”
