16 year old and Reigning U.S. Junior Amateur Champion, Jordan Spieth will be playing in HP Byron Nelson Championship of the PGA Tour on an amateur exemption.

Spieth is currently a junior at the Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas and is the number 1 ranked player in the Polo Golf Rankings. He finished second in the Junior PGA Championship and was named the Rolex Junior Player of the year.

“We are delighted that Jordan will make his first PGA Tour start at our championship here in his hometown,” event chairman George Conant said. “We try to provide opportunities to young players that we believe will be future stars, and there’s no doubt that Jordan Spieth fits that mold.”

Spieth is the event’s first amateur exemption since Trip Kuehne in 1995. Justin Leonard and Tiger Woods were the only other amateur exemptions this tournament ever granted.

The HP Byron Nelson Championship will be held at the TPC Four Seasons Resort and Club in Las Colinas in Irving, Texas on May 19-23.
