We may not know the answer to that question but we do know that if a tree falls on a golf course it sure does make a sound, especially when it is the famous 40-foot tall cypress tree on the North Course at Torrey Pines.

The tree was located behind the par-3 sixth hole that offers beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. City golf manager Jon Maddern says the wind reached 58 miles per hour during the storm.

Maddern says arborists will determine how to treat the tree. The damage begins about 12 feet from the base.
