AT&T National Recap
Tiger Woods shot a final round 67 giving him a 1 stroke lead over Hunter Mahan in the 3rd annual AT&T National Tournament, which he hosts. Tiger was able to hold off Hunter by 1 stroke after sinking a 20 foot birdie putt on the 16th.
Tiger began the day tied for the lead with Anthony Kim at 10 under, while Mahan began the day 6 strokes off the lead. Mahan shot a final round 62, tying the course record that Kim set on Thursday. Mahan finished his round about 1 hour and 45 minutes before Tiger did and held the club house lead at 12 under.
Tiger’s playing partner and defending champ, Anthony Kim, finished the day with a 1 over, 71, giving him sole possession of 3rd place. Lucas Glover, this years Masters Champion, finished tied for 5th place while Jim Furyk finished tied for 7th.
This was Tiger’s 69th career victory and 4th of the 2009 season. This is the last tournament Tiger will be playing in before The British Open. All 4 of his victories this year have come in the final tournament he has played in before a major championship.
On the same day Tiger won his tournament, his good friend Rodger Federer won his 15th major championship edging out Andy Roddick in a match for the ages, 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14. Federer broke Pete Sampras record for most career major championship victories. Tiger is looking to pick up his 15th major championship victory at The British Open in 2 weeks.
